Underwater museum in Croatia

A dive club created an exciting new site near Mali Losinj island.

According to the Jutarnij List, the new underwater archeaological park consists replicas of amphorae, Venetian cannon, old anchors. There are 11 artifacts in the 300 sqare meters are of the exhibitions in Cikat bay. The maximum depth is only 12 meters so even beginner divers would enjoy the site. The main attraction os the replica of Apoxyomenos statue. The original bronze statue was found in 1996 close to Mali Losinj at 45 meters depth and it was raised in 1999. The nearly intact staute is 192 cm high and more than 2000 years old. Maybe the statue was part of the cargo of a Roman ship, and it could fell overboard during a severe storm.

While the original staute can be seen in museum, the replica will be an exciting artifical reef. The unique project of the Diver Sport Centar will help promoting scuba diving tourism in Croatia, and it's supported by the Ministry of Tourism and the local government of Mali Losinj as well. In the future there well be another kind of underwater exhibitions in the bay too, the divers will have the chance to see the works of famous underwater photographers.
